Vibration and structureborne noise assessments

Sites are often affected by ground-borne vibration, such as that generated by trains and trams. This vibration can lead to audible noise within buildings due to structureborne vibration transmission. Sol Acoustics are able to predict the potential levels of noise within buildings due to vibration sources. The likelihood of disturbance can be demonstrated by sound simulation ('auralisation') of the vibration source. Where required, potential remedial measures can be specified such that appropriate noise levels are achieved within the building.

Structureborne vibration in building structures also limits the potential sound insulation between spaces due to the 'flanking transmission' of noise. Using computer modelling based on Statistical Energy Analysis techniques, we can predict the potential limit on sound insulation in order to target acoustic treatment when appropriate.
